Over 70% of Americans would find it difficult to come up with $1,000 when faced with an emergency. In addition, financial struggles are the leading cause of divorce in this country. Why is it that financial education is not a requirement in many states?
In this talk, I will:
I. Explain the urgent need of financial education.
II. How educators can be supported to effectively teach financial literacy.
III. How education stakeholders can be encouraged to mandate financial education.

A world-renowned educator, author and speaker who has devoted his career to transforming the lives of young people facing difficulties, Alhassan Susso is the Founder and Director of the Inspiring Teens’ Future program at the International Community High School in the South Bronx. This program has helped raise his school’s graduation rate from 31% to 84.9% in 6 years. Alhassan is the 2019 New York State Teacher of the Year and the 2020 Horace Mann Educator of the Year. He currently teaches Government, Economics and Personal Development.
